Sunday lunch: many ideas for a family lunch

Sunday lunch, a classic tradition for everyone Italians beyond the differences in regional and local gastronomy, and we try to provide some hints and ideas for a perfect menu to be replicated at home.
Sunday lunches, an Italian tradition
Sunday lunch is a real indispensable ritual for many of us and the only element we can discuss is the answer “what to cook on Sunday”: usually, however, tradition wins and the recipes of classic Italian cuisine surpass the creative or more exotic thrusts. In other words, the menu includes a rich meal, which starts with appetizers and is divided into first courses of pasta (usually homemade), second courses based on meat or fish, and then vegetable side dishes and the inevitable dessert. and which represents the most solid defense of the Italian gastronomic tradition – even if, obviously, there is room for originality, if we want to go beyond national borders or propose variants that beat repetitiveness!

Catch of the Day: Preparation meals

In the classic Italian version, the Sunday menu therefore includes strictly local dishes, and is typically divided into land dishes and seafood dishes (also depending on the location and seasonality): among the appetizers, cold cuts dominate, with ham and salami in pairing with cheeses but often also alone, and seafood appetizers; in the first courses there is the predominance of sauce and meat sauce, with which to season pasta and lasagna, or alternatively tortellini, risotto and long pasta with fish or seafood; among the second courses the classic roast meat or baked fish stand out, while among the side dishes we find potatoes, salads and fried vegetables, as well as the delicious Italian fried or mixed fried fish. Every self-respecting Sunday lunch ends with a dessert: homemade cake or pies, but also ice cream or small pastries bought in the pastry shop.

Spaghetti with clams
Brown two cloves of garlic in a drizzle of oil. Add the clams in a jar, a drop of water, and a spoonful of tomato puree. Season with salt and after 5 minutes, when cooked, sprinkle with parsley (if you have any frozen …).

Stew with potatoes
Fry half an onion in a drizzle of oil with a sprig of rosemary. Add the beef cut into not too large cubes and cover with water and broth (cube). Add a glass of tomato puree. After 30 minutes, add the diced potatoes. After 45 minutes the dish is ready.
